Honors ENG 102: First-Year Composition
Welcome!
Hello, I am your instructor Rod Freeman and I hope you find this course meaningful. The purpose of a composition course, in this case a researched composition course, is to provide a foundation for academic writing. The emphasis of the course is moving from personal based to objective authoritative based using formal bibliographic references to support argumentative papers.
Please familiarize yourself with Blackboard prior to the beginning of the class. The primary text for the course is the EMCC :
Rosen, Leonard J. Estrella Mountain Community College Writing Guide. A Second Custom Edition with MyCompLab. Taken from: The Academic Writers Handbook, Second edition. Boston: Pearson, 2008.
Note: also acceptable -- for ENG 102 Fall 2008 only Estrella Mountain Community College Handbook: The Academic Writers Handbook. Custom Edition with MyCompLab. Boston: Pearson, 2006 (you will have to look up the sections in the class schedule/assignments in this older edition to locate the correct page readings as all assignments are given by 2nd edition page numbers and content).
By all means begin your readings early! I suggest beginning with the first chapter. You should also visit the MyCompLab website For supporting materials in Writing (you must your your provided access key which comes with your text):
